Enoliteca Consortile [10/03/2017]
During celebrations for DOC Vino Nobile di Montepulciano’s 50th birthday last October, the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Consortium inaugurated its new ENOLITECA CONSORTILE headquarters, an extremely attractive building facing Antica Fortezza di Monteplulciano’s cloister, with access to its magnificent internal garden with panoramic views over Tempio di San Biagio and the Chiana and Orcia valleys. A glass floor gives a view of the archaeological finds below floor level. It is thus the ideal place in which to taste a choice of over 100 DOC Vino Nobile wines per day as well as a selection of local products under the guidance of our expert staff.
Restoration work funded by producers. The Vino Nobile consortium has always played an active part in safeguarding Montepulciano’s historic and artistic heritage. The most visible sign of this commitment, to which its member producers were invited to contribute by the town council together with other institutional and private partners, is the extremely old Fortezza whose existence is documented as far back as the 13th century. Since the early noughties the Fortezza has hosted the Vino Nobile preview and then, in 2007, a large scale restoration project was begun which made it a reference point in local economic activities in the wine and local quality product sectors. Overall, restoration work on the Fortezza cost just under three million Euros with additional contributions coming from regional funds, CIPE resources and GAL LEADER funds.
