At this year’s Vinitaly the Vino Nobile consortium presented its E(co)Bike, a one-of-a-kind bicycle made individually by artisans which visitors can ‘cycle’ at the stand thus contributing, with a minimum of activity and a souvenir photo, to an environmental sustainability project which will make this Tuscan DOCG one of the first Zero CO2 certified wines by 2018.
Thousands of wine tourists come to Montepulciano every year. What would it be like to get to the wine estates ‘sustainably’? These are the considerations which led the Vino Nobile consortium, in conjunction with Montepulciano’s Urban Bikery a sector start-up, to design an awareness raising project for wine lovers and others starting precisely from the area’s liveability. Those deciding to tour the wine estates on a rented bike get a voucher entitling them to a glass of Vino Nobile at Enoliteca Consortile.
